How to thrive in times of change and uncertainty
This event is meant for youngsters and it is organised by our Y-board.
About the session
We can summarize the session with a to-do list to stay motivated at work, but which you can also apply in your daily life.
- Focus on what you're already doing well, and try to align your workload with your competencies and what truly makes you happy.
- Take time to reflect on yourself. Schedule a few hours in your calendar to consider your own growth and where you want to go.
- Use the ABC of motivation to reflect on your intrinsic motivation.
A = autonomy: having the freedom to do something you want to do, not because you have to.
B = belonging/connectedness: feeling like you belong and are respected.
C = competence: the need to feel capable and competent in what you do. - These ABCs are necessary for your personal growth, your overall well-being, and the long-term motivation you need to enjoy your work.
- Remember that someone who resists change may have a good reason and isn't simply resisting out of malice. Listen to what this person has to say and try to understand it from their perspective.
- Implementing change in a team takes time. Management has been working on it for a while, but for the team, it can be a sudden announcement. They need time to process the new information and get used to it. It's important to provide sufficient context and time for adaptation.
- A few more abbreviations to keep in mind:
- Use LSD = listen, summarize, ask questions
- Leave OMA (Judgments, Opinions, Advice) at home more often
- Use NIVEA = Don't fill in for someone else
- Be an OEN = Open, Honest, Neutral
