Business–IT alignment anno 2020
2/2/2012 In the unique setting of the Patershof Hotel in Mechelen (formerly a church), some 40-odd CxOs explored the question of how they envisage the collaboration between business and IT in 2020.
Prof. Dr. Ir. Hendrik Vanmaele, professor at the Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School and at Ghent University, and CEO of MÖBIUS, gave in his introduction an overview of the challenges and trends that business and IT leaders will face in the coming years.
Kim Oostvogels, management consultant at MÖBIUS, introduced the concept of “Wereldcafé” (World Café) as a fun and especially very interactive way to brainstorm with a larger group*.
Afterwards small groups explored the question “How will collaboration work in 2020?” We saw animated discussions, and many minds maps and notes on the paper tablecloths...
The evening finished with a buffet dinner, with the discussions continuing... and we even heard a couple of suggestions about specific subjects to be added to the agenda of the next session. A successful evening, in terms of both form and content.
*World Café
The World Café is a series of discussions around a theme or issue. There are tables of four to five people and each one has a question (these may be the same or different) that is discussed in 20-minute sessions. The participants record their conversation on a “writeable” tablecloth in the form of a mind map, cartoon or some quotes. The conversation is stopped at a suitable moment. One participant then stays behind (the table host or hostess) and the other participants each look for a different table. Every conversation at the table begins with a review of the previous conversation, with people studying the notes on the tablecloths and the table host or hostess providing additional information. This allows the new group to go deeper into the issue. Afterwards there is a summary of all the conversations.
