Great success thanks to practical information about day-to-day ICT
Agfa is one of the founding members of ADM, so I was there from the beginning. Today, more than ten years later, the organisation has grown enormously, both in terms of members and activities. ADM has found a good balance between practical and useful working groups and info sessions on the one hand and interesting foyers on the other. And always with fascinating subjects on the agenda, which are in line with what really goes on in ICT. This partly explains, I think, the success and the large turnout. Another reason for the success is the flawless organisation, from the invitation to the event and the follow-up afterwards. ADM certainly deserves the credit for this, as do the companies that are motivated to engage themselves voluntarily to turn the working groups, info sessions and foyers into activities that you can really get something out of. So I think that ADM has evolved from a passive to a very active networking organisation. It is not just restricted to talking and listening: the members are rightly expected to also make their own intellectual contribution.
I have attended and organised a variety of working groups and info sessions at ADM. For instance, I was actively involved in starting up the working group on IT Governance (Service Management, Portfolio Management, Project Management) and Enterprise Content Management. Thanks to ADM I had the opportunity to share a lot of knowledge and experience, but I have also picked up a lot of information along the way. And I have gotten to know many fine people, with whom I sometimes have contact outside ADM. Being involved actively means you can make contact with other people easily and quickly. At ADM there is a very good atmosphere, which is formal when necessary but it can also be informal. What is said and what happens during the working groups and info sessions is of a very high standard. And the chat afterwards is relaxed and pleasant. Could this mix be one of the reasons why so many people stay with ADM once they have joined? I certainly think so.
